I recently completed this illustration assignment for one of my favorite basketball websites, Triangle Offense. I've been back and forth with them for a few months trying to figure out the best way to do something related to NBA culture, and selfishly, something to rep my Atlanta Hawks. The feature highlights the nicknames of the Hawks starting five players and some of their personal items such as NBA socks and the Red October inspired LeBron 12's DeMarre Carroll has been wearing this season. Check it out here.
LeBron 12 "Cleveland Colorways"
I just wrapped-up this fun illustration project with Finish Line and Campless:
Bron-Bron is going home, so naturally Swoosh needs some Cleveland-inspired colorways for the new LeBron 12 sneaker. Follow along as we'll be revealing 12 fun CLEVEways over the next 12 days at the Finish Line blog. I'll post colorways as they are revealed. -LL
No Ordinary People
Yesterday, I participated in the No Ordinary People // Lazarus Print Benefit at Twin Kittens gallery here in Atlanta. I'm totally blown away by the amazing quality of the silk-screened prints by Baron Press. Also, thank to the fine folks at Lazarus for having me!
Show details:
15 artists / 15 posters inspired by a C.S. Lewis quote taken from the "Weight of Glory".
30 CMYK silk-screened prints per design.
The quote:
"...It may be possible for each to think too much of his own potential glory hereafter; it is hardly possible for him to think too often or too deeply about that of his neighbour. The load, or weight, or burden of my neighbour’s glory should be laid daily on my back, a load so heavy that only humility can carry it, and the backs of the proud will be broken. It is a serious thing to live in a society of possible gods and goddesses, to remember that the dullest and most uninteresting person you talk to may one day be a creature which, if you saw it now, you would be strongly tempted to worship, or else a horror and a corruption such as you now meet, if at all, only in a nightmare. All day long we are, in some degree, helping each other to one or other of these destinations. It is in the light of these overwhelming possibilities, it is with the awe and the circumspection proper to them, that we should conduct all our dealings with one another, all friendships, all loves, all play, all politics. There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal. Nations, cultures, arts, civilization—these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit—immortal horrors or everlasting splendours. This does not mean that we are to be perpetually solemn. We must play. But our merriment must be of that kind (and it is, in fact, the merriest kind) which exists between people who have, from the outset, taken each other seriously—no flippancy, no superiority, no presumption. And our charity must be a real and costly love, with deep feeling for the sins in spite of which we love the sinner—no mere tolerance or indulgence which parodies love as flippancy parodies merriment. Next to the Blessed Sacrament itself, your neighbour is the holiest object presented to your senses. If he is your Christian neighbour he is holy in almost the same way, for in him also Christ vere latitat—the glorifier and the glorified, Glory Himself, is truly hidden." - C.S. Lewis from "The Weight of Glory
Welcome back Zaza!
It was good to see one of my favorite former Hawks back in action at Philips Arena.
The Takeover Vol. 2

Last fall, my friends at Nice Kicks asked me to redesign the window graphics for their store in Austin, TX and I jumped at the opportunity to do so. The store's previous window installation was called "The Takeover" and was created by Harsky, who is a huge source of inspiration for me. I wanted to pay tribute to Harsky's work, so I decided to call my installation, "The Takeover Vol. 2". The graphics went up yesterday, and I'm thrilled for a piece of me to be in Austin for the next year. For more information, click here to the Nice Kicks story.
We also made some merchandise for the event and I'm happy to know that folks will be walking around in tees and tanktops with some old school #HawksBros flavor.

Posters in the Hall

I've been drawing sneakers and other things for fun over the past month or so, with no real purpose other than to have fun. Then the other day, I was serendipitously asked to participate in a poster show. It is certainly strange how things fall into place sometimes.
I'll be producing prints of some of my favorite sneaker pieces for the show. I'll make multiple prints so if anyone wants to buy one, they can. The prints will be square (50cm x 50cm). They'll easily fit into lots of frames offered by Ikea and art stores.
I don't have many details about the show yet, but I'll update as soon as I know more. For now:
Posters in the Hall
Location: The long hallway between The Jane and Octane Grant Park (ATL).
Opening Night: Friday night, October 11, 2013
Time: 8pm
Apparently this is the first art show hosted by Octane Grant Park. Woot!

Welcome (Back)
For years, this site has been untouched. I originally bought this URL to house my student portfolio site when I graduated from Portfolio Center. Over the years, this site hasn't done much (I haven't really had to present a body of work in awhile).
Rather than relaunch LarryLukDesign.com as another boring portfolio site, I thought this would be a good place to put personal Illustrations and other fun stuff I will be working on outside of We Are The Process brand and other client work.
Thanks for stopping by!
